Unless one is using the insurer's call centre, an owner
will need the old and new tag details in order to complete the claim form or claim link details.

In broad strokes, if a geyser is still within it's warranty period, the manufacturer will replace a failed geyser, whereas outside the warranty period, the insurer will usually replace, subject to limits and excess. Hence the need for the old tag, in order to verify the age and warranty period when claiming from insurance.
